What common problems show up inside Central Valley homes?
Dry air and big temperature swings cause hairline cracks, especially above doors and windows and along ceiling lines. Older mid-century and ranch homes often have textured ceilings, plaster-style walls or many layers of old paint. Some walls need more patching than they first appear to.
Sun is another factor. Rooms with large south or west windows can fade paint and furniture quickly. Kitchens collect grease, and bathrooms hold steam, so those rooms may call for a washable finish or a moisture-resistant product. Smoke from nearby wildfires and from cooking can also leave a film that has to be cleaned or sealed before paint will stick.
